Today there are many national large-scale projects, including Yamal Peninsula development program, Shtokman gas condensate field development, Yamal space information system development, etc. The preparation to the Olympic Games-2014 and development of a new line for gas exports to Europe – Nord Stream are also underway. In 2009, the RF President Dmitry Medvedev noted the significance of project iactivities for the development of our society. He emphasized the lack of qualified managers and specialists, especially young specialists, for the implementation of the national projects. They key event of 2009 – the First International Project Management Forum for Students and Post-Graduates was held in response to this demand.

The Russian Forum was organized by the Moscow PMI (Project Management Institute) Chapter. In Perm, the Forum was arranged by the Perm Branch of the Moscow PMI Chapter with support from Parma-Telecom and Perm State University. On December 3-4, the Forum took place in 160 Russian higher educational institutions. In Perm, the event was held at the Perm State University. It involved over 150 participants: students, post-graduates, and teachers of Perm institutions. The Forum was broadcast as a series of webinars presenting Russian and foreign speakers – experts in project management.

Parma-Telecom conducted a student workshop on project deadline management with case-studies featuring projects implemented in LUKOIL Overseas Holding Ltd, LUKOIL Western Siberia, LUKOIL Komi as well as joint projects with LUKOIL-Inform, PermNIPINeft, PFI-Group. Students also took part in a business game called “Strategy Development” which involved development of project programs by different student teams.

The Forum focused on the key issues of project activities: from program and portfolio management, their connection with the company strategic management, to project management in different industries (construction, engineering, banking, production, sales, services, etc). Participants learnt about new technologies which today constitute an essential part of a manager’s work – project management information systems.

Yevgeny Henner, Provost for Research and Innovation, Perm State University, thanked Parma-Telecom for its support of the First International Project Management Forum for Students and Post-Graduates and awarded Leonid Tikhomirov, Parma-Telecom General Director, with a Letter of Appreciation.

The Forum has been declared a true breakthrough by the Perm State University: among the participants were internationally acclaimed specialists; besides, it was the first time that the format of webinars was used in the Perm State University. The Forum provided its participants with a unique opportunity to gain new theoretical and practical knowledge about project management from the world famous experts.
